I had David Clarcks before, you could also adjust the volume on theirs as well. You can get any ANR (Active noise cancelling) headset, Bose ones are just the best for pros are certified for commercial use I think.īut for you a student pilot, you might have been equally happy with the Faro's noise cancelling headset. I've already convinced the instructor that I flew with today to get one after I let him have a go with it while we were still on the ground, and my second instructor who knows I have it also hates me since he doesn't have one yet either :Pĭoes anyone have any links to explanations on how the heck it actually works? I've tried googling but I can't find any info on how the Bose A20 gets the noise cancelling it does just by adding power to it and I would love to find out so I can write a blog post about it.

The Bluetooth for cross-country flights is just going to be an added bonus and being able to adjust my volume independently of the instructor is great considering we don't have matching headsets for the aircraft at my school, I can let the instructor set the volume for their headset and then set my A20 to a level that's good for me. Slamming the doors closed on the 152 went from sounding like you ARE smashing them closed to a dull thud. I fly a 152 for training and I went from the engine being still quite loud during flight with a David Clark to "Wait, am I flying a truck now or something?" level of engine noise with the A20.

I just didn't think adding power to a headset was going to make the noise cancelling THAT much better, but boy was I wrong.

So I got myself a Bose A20 this week and used it for the first time today and honestly, while I have read reviews and got lots of info about it being one of the best aviation headsets, I wasn't expecting that much from it.
